Garter Season Hat Pattern

The temperatures begin to fall, the winds take on a cooler feel, and our knitting hearts know that winter will be at our doorstep soon. When that time arrives each year, there is nothing I love more than making lots and lots of hats… for my family, for donations, or as gifts for the upcoming holiday season.

And more than anything I love a hat pattern that has interest but is also a quick and satisfying finished object. The Garter Season Hat is a simple garter stitch hat with a bit of interest that is sure to keep your mind engaged and your fingers happy.

I intentionally began the hat with a shorter ribbed section which allows for a more comfortable and tighter fit at the temple, while keeping the focus on the patterning of the main section; however, if you prefer a larger ribbed section, feel free to adjust to fit your needs.

This is the first pattern in a collection of hats I am calling my “Heartland” Collection, inspired from watching the CBC and now Netflix series with the same name. The design is based off of a hat that Bob wore in season 9.

Hat is knit with aran weight yarn and is available in three sizes to fit a head circumference of 19-23 inches.
