We all go through rough patches in our lives–be they physical, mental, or emotional. Sometimes we even have rough patches in our crafting lives where nothing seems to go as we hoped. Over the years I have had my fair share of tough times or rough patches, and my knitting and crafting has always played a key part in my way through.
I have found that when my mind or body is in need of a respite, I am most drawn to knitting patterns with a simple construction and a touch of interest every several rows. This pattern was created with this in mind. It features a fun yet challenging knot stitch that is both textured and beautiful, but only occurs every several rows. This allows our brains to rest during the stockinette sections while staying engaged during the pattern rows.
The Rough Patch Cowl is knit using a US 5 (3.75 mm) 16 inch circular needle. Gauge is 22.5 stitches and 28 rows over 4 inches of knitting the 10 row knot stitch pattern repeat. The light green sample pictured is knit with Berry Fun Yarns Allstar DK and the peach and dark green samples are knit with two strands of Berry Fun Yarns Berry Tough Sock held together.
Pattern includes directions for four sizes – Child/Teen/Adult Medium/Adult Large to fit head circumferences of 17-18, 19-20, 21-22, and 23-24 inches.
